Why This Matters

Our current high school was built in 1970 – before modern safety codes, before the digital age, and before our understanding of what makes effective learning environments.

Seismic Risk

Current building cannot withstand an earthquake beyond 3.5-4 magnitude. We're in the Cascadia Subduction Zone with a 37% chance of major earthquake in 50 years.

Security Concerns

17 different entry points make it nearly impossible to secure. Modern schools have controlled, monitored access.

Failing Systems

HVAC breaks down causing school closures. Electrical can't handle modern technology. Plumbing is buried in concrete and prohibitively expensive to repair.

Benefits for Our Community

This investment goes beyond education—it strengthens Florence and the surrounding area.

Attract Families & Professionals

Quality schools attract doctors, teachers, and skilled workers who want the best for their children.

Grow the Tax Base

More families and businesses mean a larger tax base, reducing everyone's individual tax burden over time.

Emergency Shelter

A modern, seismically safe facility can serve as an emergency shelter for our coastal community.
